In her artistic work, Eglė Šimkus reveals pure emotion on canvas or paper, through vibrant colors that interact with each other. This emotion decomposes into lines and shapes to create a melody imbued with beauty and poetic imagination.
She endeavors to paint the absent ones, to give shape and color to the memories of departed loved ones. She questions what remains of them and what language can still be imagined. Through her works, she seeks an authentic language, using symbols to communicate with others. For her, wounds and traumas represent an anatomy of art. Her approach draws from her own body, both suffering and wounded, yet always alive.
The abstract and instinctive gestures she makes on her canvases are like scratches that imprint on the canvas, just as they would on her skin.
For her, the body is a meeting place that develops its own language. This encounter is her way of conveying what is intangible and sharing her inner world with others. She believes that the body is an entity traversed by time, an aesthetic link that connects humans to the cosmos. This same body enables us to weave a mystical connection with our environment.
